Before You Reset The InDesign Preferences

Resetting the InDesign preferences will remove all workspace customizations you have done – so it’s not a decision to take lightly, but sometimes there is no way around it.

If you have full administrative control over your workstation, you can do a preliminary test before trashing the preferences.

First temporarily create a new user account on your computer – you can delete it after the preliminary test.

Log out, then log in as the new user, and launch InDesign.

If everything works this way, but not when logged in to your ‘normal’ user account, it is a strong indication that something in the preferences of your ‘regular’ user account is causing the issue.

If logging in using the temporary account does not fix the issue, there is probably a more serious problem with your installation. You can try and find some help, but if nothing works, you might need to re-install InDesign and/or re-install your operating system.

Log back into your normal user account.
