KCCSizer

KCCSizer downscales dropped JPEG files so they fit in an area of 1920 x 1080 pixels, and are compressed to a file size of 1MB or less.

Please consult the license and copyright info at the bottom of this page.

Both Macintosh and Windows versions are provided.

Click line below to download:

We also have an older version which should run on older Macs:

https://www.rorohiko.com/downloads/KCCSizer.0.0.5.zip

Usage and installation are meant to be simple:

  • Copy the correct KCCSizer to your computer.
  • Drag/drop one or more JPEG files onto the KCCSizer program icon. It will make downsized copies of the files by prefixing their names with ‘KCC_’.

Goals

KCCSizer was developed for the benefit of the members of the Kapiti Camera Club (http://www.kapiticameraclub.co.nz), with the following goals in mind:

Files below 1MB in size

First of all, members need to make sure any images they upload to their portfolio on the club web site are below 1MB in size.

Images fit inside a 1920 x 1080 pixels

Furthermore, on club nights, when images are being projected, they work best if their sizes match up with the size of the video display in the club rooms, which is 1920 x 1080.

Easy to install and use

Because the KCC members have a wide variety of computers (Windows 7, Windows 8, Mac OS X 10.x) , with a wide variety of softwares for image editing (Photoshop, Lightroom, Aperture, Picasa,…) it became quite cumbersome to try and provide concise instructions on how to achieve the desired goal (fit in 1920 x 1080, less than 1MB in size) with all those softwares.

KCCSizer is an attempt to work around this issue. It is a very simple tool that does only one thing. Because it does not have many bells and whistles, we hope it works for most members.

Installing And Using KCCSizer

For Windows installation and usage: scroll further.

Installing KCCSizer On Macintosh

Click the download link at the beginning of this web page to download the .ZIP file that contains the KCCSizer software.

Find the downloaded file (most probably it will be in your Downloads folder).

Unzip the .ZIP file by double-clicking it.

FinderScreenSnapz001

A new folder should appear. Inside that folder, you should find a file called Macintosh.dmg. Double-click it.

FinderScreenSnapz002

The .dmg will mount and a new window should open, with in it the KCCSizer application.

Drag it to a convenient spot, for example, the desktop. Having it on the Desktop makes it readily available, but you could also move it into your Applications folder and add it to your Dock. This is mainly a matter of personal preference.

After that you can eject KCCSizer disk image. If you don’t know how to do that, restart your Mac; it’ll be gone.

You can now delete all the KCCSizer-related items from your Downloads folder; you don’t need them any more.

Now collect all images you want to resize.

The easiest is to make a new folder, then go into your image collection, and make copies of any desired the images to this folder.

Be careful: don’t move the images. Make sure to copy them.

An easy way to do that is to navigate around in the Finder, and use ‘Cmd+C’ and ‘Cmd+V’ (Cut and Paste) on the image files.

In the Finder, select all the image files, and drag their icons onto the KCCSizer icon.

Google ChromeScreenSnapz001

Having it on the Desktop makes it readily available, but you could also opt to move it into your C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86) folder, then add a shortcut to KCCSizer.exe to your desktop. This is mainly a matter of personal preference.

The KCCSizer folder contains two items: KCCSizer.exe and a subfolder called KCCSizer Libs.

These two items should stay together: if you move the KCCSizer.exe, the KCCSizer Libs needs to be moved to the same location. If you don’t keep them together, the program won’t function.

You can now delete all the KCCSizer-related items from your Downloads folder; you don’t need them any more.
