Fixing Installation Problems On InDesign CS4 For Windows

On some Windows installations, the APID ToolAssistant plug-in will refuse to load. If that’s the case, you might need to download and install the following Microsoft update (Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)).

After installing the VS2005 SP1 redistributables, you need to go through the following procedure, step by step:
1) Exit out of InDesign CS4 for Windows
2) Remove all traces of APID ToolAssistant from the Plug-Ins folder
3) Start InDesign CS4 for Windows
4) Exit out of InDesign CS4 for Windows
5) Copy APIDToolAssistantCS4.pln into the Plug-Ins folder
